Understanding Hair Quality (100% Human Hair Guide)
1. What does 100% human hair actually mean?
100% human hair means the hair material is sourced entirely from humans. It contains no synthetic fibers, manufactured protein fibers, bio-fibers or animal hair. Human hair is mainly made of a protein called keratin. However, “100% protein” does not mean “100% human hair.” Horse hair and sheep wool are 100% protein, and the latest bio-fibers can also be 100% protein, but they don't perform the same as human hair.
Manufactured protein fibers may look and feel like human hair. Some manufactured protein fibers also contain synthetic materials for added strength. However, they do not have the same natural structure as hair grown on a person’s head. A soft feel or a strong strand does not prove that the material is human hair.
Human hair has an outer protective layer called the cuticle. Processing can damage or remove this layer. The hair is still human hair, but its condition and performance can suffer. This is why “100% human hair” does not automatically mean high-quality, unprocessed or long-lasting hair.
Hair naturally varies in thickness, texture, and strength. Genetics and donor age can affect these features. Sun exposure, humidity and daily care can also affect its condition. But a donor’s age or geographic origin alone does not guarantee better hair. What matters is the condition of the hair we start with, how it is collected, and how it is processed. Preserving the cuticle and avoiding excessive processing help protect the hair’s quality.
At JALIZA, if we call a material “human hair,” we mean 100% human hair. When JALIZA states that a braided wig uses synthetic fiber for the braids and human hair for the boho curls, we mean the boho curls are 100% human hair. We also offer 100% human hair braided wigs for which both the braids and boho curls are human hair. We also offer regular 100% human hair wigs. We do not use this label for blends containing synthetic fibers, manufactured protein fibers, bio-fibers or animal hair.
2. What do double drawn hair, single drawn and super double drawn mean?
Double drawn hair has been sorted to remove more short strands. This leaves a higher proportion of long hairs. The bundle looks fuller and thins out less toward the ends.
Some sellers describe double drawn hair as having around 65% to 75% of strands reach the stated length. For super double drawn hair, some claim 85% to 95% or more. For single drawn hair, some claim 30% to 40% or more. But these percentages are not a shared industry standard. Sellers use these labels differently. One seller’s double drawn hair may look very different from another’s. Adding “super” does not guarantee a certain level of fullness. Also some sellers only talk about the portion of their long hair, but don't talk about how short their short hair really are. These terms are often overused. We believe clear measurements mean more than a name that simply sounds premium.
The amount of short hair matters, too. A bundle can contain plenty of full-length hair and still have many very short strands mixed in. These shorter strands can add bulk near the top without adding fullness farther down. They may also stick out and make the hair look less smooth.
That is why JALIZA created PrimeFlow™, our standard for premium hair fullness and flow. Our standard has two requirements:
1. No short strands in the top 60% of the length. Measured from the top, no strands end within this section.
2. At least 35% fullness at the stated length. The bundle keeps fullness through to its full length.
By removing very short strands, PrimeFlow™ helps reduce the flyaway they can cause. It allows a gradual, natural taper toward the ends. Every strand does not need to be exactly the same length. Our goal is simple: fuller hair, fewer short strands and natural movement.
Hair flow or fullness alone does not prove hair quality or purity. A bundle can look full and still contain protein or bio-fibers, particularly the long hair, as long human hair is much more expensive than long protein hair.
We also look at the condition of the hair and how it has been processed. PrimeFlow™ describes fullness and flow. Our 100% human hair promise describes the material. Both matter when choosing good hair.
